Four lane HWY 79 through Vernon

I was reading an article on WJHG about the upcoming four laning of HWY 79 through Vernon.

I can understand the Braxton family being upset about their house being taken. They said six generations of family have lived there. That is a huge loss to that family. Money can not replace what the state is taking from them. There must be a way to route around their house.

As for the rest of Vernon. I think it is a good thing. It looks like they are going to lose the business on the west side of 79, but that is how progress works. They can rebuild the business and the whole reason for this project is to direct more traffic through the area. That will bring more business and economic development.

Some people are just afraid of change. Think of the good that could come of this. Vernon is an area where there is not much to do and not many places to work. This is going to be a good thing for the area.

I am from the other side of Bonifay in Holmes County. They have an Economic Development Commission there now that is trying to get some businesses and industry in there.  They have already gotten a Wildlife park and have more on the way.

The people in Vernon need to look at this as a growth opportunity for their children and grandchildren.

Conventions and Trade Shows

I am always reading about different conventions around the country.
Gnomedex, CES, LinuxWorld, MacWorld, DEF CON, COMDEX..etc.. Even Star
Trek Conventions all over the place.

WE HAVE NOTHING HERE!!  We are in a technology void! I remember in the
fall of 1994 or 1995 there was a Star Trek convention at our Marina
Civic Center. That was the only time I ever saw anything like that
here. Granted the West Coast is the hub of technology in this country.
But we have convention centers here and the Civic Center. Plus we are
on the beach. If there is any one that a geek needs, it is sun!! A tan.
Hell even a burn would improve the pigment of the pasty faced geeks
that these conventions have been know to be packed full of.

I think that the people that arrange these things would love the
opportunity to come to the beach and have their conventions here. Other
than the heat(which is sometimes unbearable), this is a great place.

Welcome to my Blog!

This is a Blog about the area I live in and grew up in. Bay County is in the Florida Panhandle, about 2 hours west of Tallahassee. Our biggest attraction here is the beach. Hundreds of Thousands of people come here each year. The majority of these were Spring Breakers and while we still get alot of them, we also get alot of families on vacation. This will be about things going on here. Places to go, things to do and see, and what not to do.
